Virtual Travel: The Magic of Place: How New England Shaped its Artists and Writers

Thursday, February 25, 2021 - 2:00pm

Drawing on the wealth of National Historic Landmark properties covered in their book, Historic New England: A Tour of the Region's Top 100 National Landmarks, authors Patricia Harris and David Lyon will discuss and show photos of a dozen New England sites associated with some of our most beloved authors and artists. Sites include the stunningly landscaped grounds of sculptor Daniel Chester French's Chesterwood in Stockbridge, the homey confines of the Louisa May Alcott house in Concord, and Winslow Homer's studio on Prouts Neck, south of Portland, Maine, arguably one of the most iconic ocean views in American art.

Register through Zoom.

Patricia Harris and David Lyon are frequent contributors to the Boston Globe. They are also the authors of more than thirty books on travel, food, and art for British and American publishers. In addition to important civic buildings and the homes of several presidents, their most recent book, Historic New England: A Tour of the Region’s Top 100 National Landmarks also includes three carousels, America's first public beach, and three historic submarines. They are finishing up a companion volume on fifty National Historic Landmarks in Boston that will be published next summer by the Globe Pequot Press.
