Jeff Buckridge's Uke Joint is back to kick off the Friends' Concert Series. A unique jazz trio where the ukulele takes on the role of the guitar, Uke Joint features bass and drums and a special guest vocalist. Jeff is a professional jazz and blues guitar player and educator who, after visiting Hawaii some 15 years ago was "bitten by the ukulele bug." Since that time he has been performing and recording his own style of ukulele that includes jazz, reggae, flamenco and pop influences. He has also been teaching music in the Andover Public Schools for nearly 20 years.
About the Band
This concert features a special guest appearance by acclaimed jazz singer Lydia Harrell (who also plays ukulele!). She has performed with the Boston Pops, won the 2015 Duke Ellington Jazz Vocal competition, and has numerous other recording and performance credits. On bass is Mik Mersha, who performs with the award-winning Cubano rock combo, Los Sugar Kings. Drummer Erick Cifuentes grew up in Guatemala and performs around New England in Latin, Jazz, Funk, and R&B bands. He is also a regular visiting artist at the Berklee College of Music.
