A lecture-recital honoring the works of Western classical female composers will be presented by soprano, Dr. Jessica McCormack and pianist, Cathy Meyer. Selected works from the 17th century through the present day will feature composers Barbara Strozzi, Pauline Viardot, Clara Schumann, Amy Beach, Stella terHart and Lori Laitman.

Soprano, Jessica McCormack holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of North Texas, a Master of Music from Southern Methodist University, and a Bachelor of Music from the University of Toronto. She has sung at Carnegie Hall, under the direction of Ton Koopman, Helmuth Rilling, and Robert Spano as part of the Professional Training Workshops series. Her roles include Nannetta in Verdi’s Falstaff, Barbarina in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, Aurora in Cavalli’s L’Egisto, Tirsi in Handel’s Clori, Tirsi e Fileno, Cunegonde in Bernstein’s Candide and Cathy in Jason Robert Brown’s The Last Five Years. Her oratorio work includes Carissimi’s Jepthe, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Schütz’s Die sieben Worte, Bach’s Weihnachtsoratorium, Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem, Schubert’s Mass in G, Fauré’s Requiem and Orff’s Carmina Burana. She has also been a featured soloist with the Fort Worth, South Bend, New Brunswick, and Springfield (Ohio) symphonies, and the Bach Society of Dayton. Jessica resides in Andover and works in arts administration and management.

Cathy Meyer works in the Boston area as a full-time musician, performing, conducting, teaching, and coaching musicians of all levels and ages. She is Minister of Music at South Church, UCC, in Andover, directing seven ensembles weekly as well as playing the organ and piano for services. She teaches organ privately and through the Young Organist Initiative with the American Guild of Organists. Believing strongly that music can bring people of all walks of life together, Meyer serves as Musical Director for the interfaith Hebrew Lord’s Prayer Experience project. She received a Bachelor of Music in Organ Performance with a Specialization in Church Music from the University of North Texas and a Master of Sacred Music from Boston University’s School of Theology with a concentration in organ.
