Jumpstart Your Family History Research

jumpstart your family history research
Saturday, April 13, 2024 - 1:00pm

Join Bruce Earnley for a beginner genealogy class.

Researching your family’s history is an open-ended project that deepens your understanding of who you are and how your ancestors got you here. The project will be challenging, sometimes exciting, sometimes frustrating, but it should always be engaging and fun.

This class reviews time-tested strategies for documenting your ancestry including building your family tree with existing information, using online sources, scrutinizing online family trees and keeping your research organized.

In order to fully take advantage of this class, registrants are encouraged to come to the session with some initial family history documentation on a form that will be emailed to them prior to the class. This pre-class work amounts to documenting vital record information about yourself, your parents, grandparents and great-grandparents if you are able to do so.  In addition, registrants are encouraged to make free personal accounts at FamilySearch.org and Ancestry.com prior to attending this workshop. Any questions about this can be emailed to the library staff at rdesk@mhl.org.

Bruce Earnley is a long-time Andover resident and an experienced genealogist.  Bruce has successfully completed Boston University's certificate program in genealogical studies.

Space is limited and registration is required. Registration is required at least five days prior to the start of class to ensure registrants have time to prepare.

This program will take place in the Activity Room on the library's lower level.

Please note we will be offering the same program again on Tuesday, May 7th at 6:30pm.
