Make@MHL is a community makerspace at Memorial Hall Library. The goal of the space is to provide the community with access to emerging technology and traditional tools to foster creativity and learning.

Note: Our Glowforge laser cutter is unavailable until further notice.

The makerspace is currently open Monday to Thursday 9-8, Friday 9-4:30, and Saturday 1-4:30.

We have limited materials available and encourage bringing your own materials. Email us for specifications.

Makerspace projects can be picked up any time the makerspace is open. They cannot be picked up in the Grab and Go area.

Feel free to reach out at make@mhl.org with any questions.

3D Printers

We currently have three 3D printers available:

Software:
3D File Repositories
Find free 3D design files to print. Search these when you're looking for something specific to print.

Design Software
If you want to create your own 3D files to print, try one of these.

  • Tinkercad: A free-to-use, web browser based design software. This is a great place to start to learn 3D design concepts.
  • Fusion 360: A paid software, although they do offer free hobbyist licenses. This is a great followup to Tinkercad, when you want to create more complex 3D designs from scratch.

Slicing Software
For preparing prints for the 3D printer. All three are free to download/use.

  • Ultimaker Cura: A free, open source slicing software that is simple to use but has powerful features.
  • Prusa Slicer: Prusa's open-source slicing software, which is built on top of Cura's source code, but has many more advanced features.
  • Kiri:moto: This is a web browser based slicer that is great for when you can't download software to your computer.

Materials:
We only use 1.75mm PLA filament in our 3D printers. Other materials could potentially damage our machines. Staff reserves the right to refuse any materials from use. We recommend Hatchbox or Prusa filament.

General Guidelines:

  • We cannot accept print files via email. Please bring files to the makerspace on a USB thumb drive or SD card.
  • 3D printing is limited to prints that will take less than 6 hours. The library can supply 3D printing filament, but only has certain colors available. If you're looking for a specific color we don't have, please bring your own materials. Our 3D printers can only accept 1.75mm PLA. If filament is not picked up within one week it will be added to our donated materials.
  • We will inspect any filament before it is used in our 3D printers and may reject it if it isn't safe or suitable for our printers. Please check with us for suggestions.
  • We reserve the right to refuse to print an object for any reason. If we believe an object is unlikely to print correctly, we will attempt to make mild corrections. If a print fails, we will reattempt it once.
  • No print is guaranteed. Staff may disallow a print at their discretion. Staff reserves the right to stop a print if it fails more than once.

Poster Printer

Our poster printer is a HP DesignJet T1600 36-inch Printer

  • The poster printer accepts PDF and TIFF files. We cannot accept files via email.
  • The following sizes are available:
  •      18 x 24
  •      24 x 36
  •      36 x 48
  • Poster prints are $5 per print, regardless of size. We can only accept cash for poster printing and we are not able to make change.
  • Exact change is required for poster printing.
