Why is this list so much shorter? What happened?

As of July 1st, Massachusetts residents lost access to 21 databases due to cuts in federal funding. Lean more on the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners’ webpage on Federal Funding at Risk

A Memorial Hall Library card provides access to the databases below. Additional resources are available from the Boston Public Library. For help, contact the Reference Desk at 978-623-8430.


The Great Courses

(available at home to Andover library cardholders)

“Binge-learn” over 250 of the most popular courses taught by the world’s top professors from The Great Courses Library Collection. With hundreds of videos on subjects ranging from photography to physics, astronomy to art, history to health, and everything in between, you’re sure to find courses that interest you. Each lesson is about 30 minutes in length—tune in to test out any lesson or course for the first few minutes, or for as long as you want.

Sign in with your Andover library card to get 7 days of unlimited access. Return as often as you like to get another 7-day pass. 

Andover card holders can also access Great Courses videos through Hoopla Digital and Kanopy.

Hoopla Digital

(available at home to Andover library cardholders)

Borrow movies, music, audiobooks, ebooks, comics and TV shows to enjoy on your computer, tablet, or phone.

The Hoopla Instant collection has hundreds of thousands of titles and are always available—nothing ever needs to be put on hold.

There are also a handful of high-demand titles in our Hoopla Flex collection. Borrowing an ebook or audiobook from Hoopla Flex works similarly to borrowing one on Libby/OverDrive. If an item is marked as available, you can check it out immediately. You’ll have the ebook or audiobook for 14 days with the option to renew provided there are no holds on the item. If someone has borrowed the item you want, you can place it on hold. When the hold is ready, you’ll have 72 hours to check it out before it goes to the next person. If you want, you can enable automatic checkout in Settings.

Memorial Hall Library card holders can borrow up to 8 items per month from the Hoopla Instant collection and have up to 2 items borrowed at the same time from Hoopla Flex.

Kanopy

(available at home to Andover library cardholders)

Stream classic cinema, modern movies, award-winning documentaries, and the best of international and independent film through Kanopy. 

Tickets are used to play videos. Once you create a free Kanopy account, you’ll receive 24 tickets. On the first of the month each month, unused tickets will go away and be replaced by a new set of 24 tickets.

Ticket costs vary from title to title. For example:

  • A 90-minute movie might cost two tickets while a three-hour movie might cost four.
  • Films from major studios use four tickets regardless of length.
  • A season’s worth of most TV series cost five tickets.
  • Most Great Courses lecture series cost five tickets.
  • Tickets are not required for Kanopy Kids.

Once you press play on a film, it will be available to watch for 72 hours (in some cases, 48 hours) without required additional tickets. Seasons of TV series are generally available for 14 days, and Great Courses lecture series are typically available for 21 days.

Kanopy can be accessed through a browser by visiting https://mhl.kanopystreaming.com, using a mobile app (iOS, Android, and Amazon Fire) or with various TV apps/channels (Roku, Chromecast, etc.).

Kanopy Kids

Kanopy Kids is Kanopy‘s curated collection of content for children, with a focus on ages 2-8. While in the Kanopy Kids section, you will see only content that is age-appropriate. Using favorite characters from Sesame Street, PBS Kids, Weston Woods, and more, this collection of videos inspire empathy, critical thinking, and self esteem in young viewers. The videos range from entertainment to early literacy to STEM education and foreign language learning.

Kanopy Kids videos do not require tickets and are always available without limits.

Medici.tv

Medici.tv offers the largest catalog collection of classical music, opera, jazz and dance videos. Content includes:

  • 3,500 musical works filmed from the 1940s through to the present day
  • 2,500 films including concerts, operas, ballets, documentaries and master classes
  • over 150 live events streamed every year from the world’s most prestigious venues

Starting October 2022, you can create an Individual Account while signing in under the library’s account. An Individual Account allows you to save your favorite videos, see your viewing history, and receive Medici.tv’s weekly newsletter. See this slideshow for more information.

With new releases every week spanning over 30 genres, it’s like a never-ending concert ticket. Sign in with your Andover library card to get 7 days of unlimited access. Return as often as you like to get another 7-day pass. Quello Concerts can be streamed to nearly any device, including the Libby App, under Extras. (NB: you need to be signed in to Libby in order to see the Extras!)
