2019 Pura Belpre Awards

Hispanic Heritage Month runs from September 15-October 15th each year. (This date range was chosen to include the independence days of several Latin American countries.) Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates "the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America." In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, here are this year's Pura Belpré Award and Honor-winning books. The Pura Belpré Awards are given by the American Library Association each year to honor "a Latino/Latina writer and illustrator whose work best portrays, affirms, and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in an outstanding work of literature for children and youth."
