Who funded the roof deck?

Funding was supplied by a Town CIP article, a donation from the Trustees of Memorial Hall Library, a donation from the Friends of Memorial Hall Library, and a contribution from the library’s state aid award. It was truly a joint effort.

What kind of wood is that?

The wood is ipe, pronounced EE-pay. Ipe is also known as Brazilian Walnut.  It is sourced from South and Central America. It is dense, flame-resistant, durable and beautiful. Like teak, it will weather to an attractive silvery gray.

What's that metal grate attached to the top of the columns?

It's an aluminum sun screen, also known as a brise-soleil, pronounced breez-soh-ley.

What are the counters made from?

Corian Burled Beach, formulated for outside applications.

Why now for the Roof Deck?

The deck was conceived when the 1987 addition to the library was designed and built.  However, it was never finished properly and thus not used.  Now, as we make more room for people in the library, we also have tried to create outdoor patron space.  The success of the rear patio gave us the confidence to know that our patrons would appreciate a roof deck near the heart of the library.

Who supplied the furniture for the Roof Deck?

The teak furniture was purchased from GoldenTeak.com, which operates out of Lawrence, MA
