Richard Rosenblum (1940-2000) was an artistic prodigy from New Orleans who was casting in bronze before the age of eight. Seekers was purchased for Memorial Hall Library by a committee to mark the grand re-opening of the library after a major renovation and addition in 1988. Rosenblum was deeply influenced by Chinese nature art including ancient scholars rocks and sculpture from petrified wood. He called many of his sculptures "controlled accidents" and intended them to displace Western notions of authorship and self-expression. Of local interest, Rosenblum's 16 foot bronze work Venusvine is part of the permanent collections at the Decordova Sculpture Park & Museum in Lincoln, Massachusetts.
